PARANORMAN

Over the weekend, we took my two daughters to see LAIKAs new feature Paranorman. My wife, a sculptor, and I have always enjoyed traditional stop motion animation and this film was no let down. This morning, I came across this article, which describes how the animators at LAIKA used 3D printers to build the many faces of the characters.

New Digs

Well, my first week at WCG has is almost over and i have to say, its been pretty exciting. I thought that i would probably be spening this week poring over documents on how to upload timesheets, but instead jumped right on on social engagement strategies for a Pharma brand. Really exciting stuff. It was a little daunting at first, but I quickly realized that consumer engagement is consumer engagement, and often, Its good to bring fresh perspectives into the mix. In my case, my experience in CPG marketing led to some pretty interesting conversations with the client. Great stuff. I can only hope that it gets more exciting as the weeks and months pass. We have also made progress on plans to open an Atlanta office. something that I’ve been =really looking forward to. Well, lets see how it goes.

Reaching out to the right folks

Spent the week thinking and talking a lot about how to reach people with a message. It’s intresting to hear how many people don’t consider business people as consumers when it comes
to advertising. If anything, those folks are the “superusers” out there, granted we need to understand how to approach them, but we should always consider that people in the business world are just that- people- and they have the same reactions to advertising and trend towards the same channels as regular folk.

Hey brother, can you spare a mobile strategy…

I can’t help wondering about  people calling me up and asking me if I can develop a mobile strategy for them independent of their marketing strategy, like it’s something that sits in a beaker devoid of any physical contact with the outside world – Like a virtual John Travolta’s Boy in the Digital Bubble not interacting with other forms of marketing. Until one day when it’s least expected, he falls for the sexy DM campaign that lives across the street. Why can’t all pieces of marketing live together in peace…dammit, why

Google Nexus one

Man, I had just finished typing my thoughts about Googles Nexus One phone last week, when they had the nerve to go ahead and get FCC approval for the phone. And, they’ve even said that now, the phone might even be released by January5th, 2010. People have been saying that the main reason for the new phone was Googles way of controlling updates to the OS, but that might change now that the Search giant has partnered with T-Mobile to package the phone.

welcome

I feel like I’ve just birthed a child, or at the bare minimum, set up a new blog. Luckily I have WordPress doing all of the heavy lifting. After years of writing code, dealing with css, javascript and html, I finally realized that, like with all other things, there is an easier way. I’m not saying that I couldn’t build my own site again, but at this point in my life, I have chosen to focus on other things.Using a blog template allows me to post my musings on a number of topics including the state of the web and advertising in general and do it withouth the hassle that comes with site upkeep. As this is my first post, I welcome anyone who has the desire to read one of my humble posts and hope that if you do spend some time here, you’ll share your thoughts as well.
